Unsung heroes too often go unrecognized. It was with that in mind that the Exchange Club of Vero Beach honored John Moore with its prestigious Book of Golden Deeds Award on March 8, 2011 at a luncheon in his honor.

John Moore is a founding member of the law firm of Rossway Moore Taylor & Swan where he focuses his practice in the areas of estate planning and administration and transactional matters. Mr. Moore approached his partners at the firm a few years ago with the idea of establishing a foundation. A donation from a client started the foundation and each year the firm donates a portion of its profits to help non-profit organizations with their technology needs. The firm’s community outreach initiative requires that every employee volunteer at a local non-profit organization of their choosing. Rossway Moore Taylor & Swan believes that participation by every member of the Firm not only lifts up our community, but also reinforces its collective view of the personal importance and fulfillment that comes from serving others.

John Moore is the founder of the Holy Cross Catholic Church Community Service Ministry; he has given over 1500 hours of pro bono service in the form of legal services in the areas of real estate, probate, estate planning, dissolution of marriage, and guardianship. For his pro bono services, he was named the pro bono attorney of the year for 2010. Mr. Moore has served on many local non-profit boards and committees such as the VNA and Hospice Foundation, United Way as Campaign Co-Chair, Indian River Medical Center Foundation board, Indian River Habitat for Humanity, and the Vero Beach Museum of Art Finance Committee to name but a few. In 2006 Mr. Moore received the Volunteer of the Year award from the Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition. In 2007 John and his wife were named “Good Samaritans of the Year” by the Samaritan Center. In 2008 John was co-founders and charter donor of the Indian River Community Foundation, and in 2009 John and his wife received the United Way’s Ralph T. King Lifetime Contribution Award. In 2010 John received the Pinnacle Award presented by the Indian River Estate Planning Council and the Planned Giving Council of Indian River for promoting charitable giving through estate and gift planning.

The Book of Golden Deeds Award honors a worthy person or group that continuously donates time, talent and energy to help those in need. Many times, fine citizens of our community do numerous good deeds that go unnoticed. This award is designed to honor these unsung heroes. Mr. Moore received a special plaque to commemorate the occasion. The Exchange Club of Vero Beach has been presenting this award annually since 1969.
